Northwoods Wisconsin Jeep Jamboree 2007...

 | invite us to an event |

This is the 12th annual jamboree held in Wisconsin outside of Crandon, since it is a fall jamboree it is nice and comfortable with the temps being low enough at night that it is comfortable if not a little cool but great for sleeping after a hard day out on the trails. The day time temps are only in the mid 70’s so it is perfect weather to be out on the trail enjoying nature and a weekend of wheeling. You are comfortable in the morning with a long sleeve shirt on, mid day is perfect for a t-shirt and by evening you’re looking for the long sleeve again, not too hot, and not too cold.

One would wonder what kind of wheeling Wisconsin may have to offer but there is a great variety of options out in the area where the jamboree has been held and any of the trails offer participants of all experience-levels something that will keep them visually entertained as well as technically challenged as they progress through the woods over the weekend. The folks at Plum Greek Timber have been kind enough to offer up their land to JJUSA to use during these events and it couldn’t be better suited for an event like this. With plenty of tight, twisting and turning, cross axle spots it keeps you right on the edge of your seat until you get to the rock obstacles (yes, I said, “rock”). They have plenty of rock up there to climb up and over, many people had the same reaction and never expected to see such tough terrain in Wisconsin. These are obstacles that Jeeps well equipped with long arm lift kits and 35” tires had a challenge getting up and in some cases the rock won. So it is by no means a boring trail ride through the trees.

There were plenty of participants coming from all over the country representing 8 states as well as Canada. In addition to that we had a young couple that decided to get married in front of 250 strangers so they could get married at this year’s jamboree. Everyone gathered outside of the Crandon Community Center on Saturday morning for a short ceremony and then the bride and groom were in there Jeep planning a day of northern wheeling for their honeymoon. As luck would have it on Saturday’s night drawing the newlywed’s happened to be one of the winners and won themselves a free trip to any of the JJUSA events for next year, not a bad way to start off a marriage.

If you ever have the chance and want to take in a fall trip or jamboree that offers you a great way to spend a weekend wheeling while checking out some of the fall color changes, look no further. This is a destination and trip that is sure to keep you entertained the whole weekend through.  During the days you have plenty of wheeling and sights as well as colors to see and in the evening there are some great local hot spots to check out. If you have a couple of extra days there are several lakes around the area, most with roads around them that also make for a great scenic drive in the fall.

Overall, I would rank this jamboree in the top three favorites of mine being right up there with Moab and The Rubicon Trail. Reason being is that it was in such a great setting and the folks in Wisconsin happened to be some of the friendliest people I have ever met. I hope to get the chance to get back up north and attend this one again, maybe I'll see you out there!! Happy Jeepin :-)
