May 10, 2007.....Day 1.....

Most of today was spent driving as I made my way towards Tallahassee Florida where I would be meeting up with Vance; I would be picking him up at the airport where he would be flying in from Canada. The trip down has been outstanding and we want to send out a special thanks to Dave and Racine Morgan, without them and their efforts we would not have managed to get our M416 trailer with all of our gear loaded in it here to Florida. We had trouble finding a shipper that we could get the trailer to Florida on time so they were willing to take time out of their schedules to help us out.

...Vance on left & Will on right

The trip to Florida was great, we met some nice folks that were interested in our story and trip and we hope to hear from them on our “People We’ve Met” postings. The people we met and the scenery were both outstanding, the very reason for taking these kinds of trips and adventures.  Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida all had great visual appeal and I am eager to start out travels through Georgia, Tennessee, the other side of Arkansas and the rest of the country that we will be going through on our way home.

Vance arrived in Florida shortly before us so the timing was good. After picking him up we headed off to the Cabot Lodge where we will be staying while we are in Tallahassee.  A long drive for us and a day of flying for him warranted a trip to Red Lobster for some sea food, the trip wouldn’t be right being this close to the ocean and not having seafood. After a great meal we headed back to the hotel so we could begin planning tomorrow’s schedule, we plan to meet with Nick Fallier so we could begin to get some of his stories on his wartime service as well as those related to his old Willys and his love for Jeeps.
