Devils Bathtub 2009...

| invite us to an event |

This year we have expanded on the “Adventure and Expedition” aspect of our sites and message. For years we have shared our wheeling and Jeep road trips with our viewers and continue to do so but we realized how many other fun things that we do which all begins with climbing into the Jeep to head to where we plan to play no matter what we are doing for the day or weekend.

Hiking is another of the favorite past times where we like to climb into the Jeeps and enjoy a trip to the trailhead before going out on the trail for a day hike. There is a nice little hike in the Black Hills of South Dakota that has seen several generations of hikers over the years and still gets plenty of traffic from the locals and a surprising amount of travelers that seem to know how to find it even though it isn’t marked anywhere from the road.

Just a short hike the trail offers several places where you cross back and forth across Cleopatra Creek and winds through the woods alongside rock walls and undercuts where the water has eroded away the banks. It makes for a pretty walk that is not too taxing for hikers of all ages to be able to get out and enjoy a few hours of simple trail and outstanding natural surroundings.

Hitting “The Devils Bath Tub” in late July or the during the month of August is the perfect time if you plan to get in the water at all, the temps outside will be warm enough that the cold, clear water will be refreshing. This is just one of those places that you can go to escape from the hustle of life for a little while and not have too far to go to get there or have to spend the whole day hiking if you don’t want to.

There is always traffic going thru Spearfish Canyon admiring the scenic views not knowing what lies beyond the thickness of the trees and how much better it really gets out of the vehicle and off the main road. The Black Hills has so many great places like this to offer which makes it so easy to understand why the people that do live here have enjoyed the area for so many years.

If you are close to Spearfish and looking for something to do be sure to put Bridal Veil Falls and The Devils Bath Tub on your list of places to stop. Bridal Veil Falls is located on the way up to the trailhead on Hwy 14 going thru the canyon and the trailhead for The Devils Bath Tub is located at the corner of Cleopatra and Hwy 14.
